Education for All

SONA Global believes in providing accessible and high quality global orthopaedics education for all.

We partner with orthopaedic surgeons around the world to produce educational content delivered online and in multiple languages. We focus on supporting the training and needs of providers working in resource-limited settings, serving poor and vulnerable patients.

The SONA model

Our Virtual Education Conferences, created in partnership with the Harvard Global Orthopaedics Collaborative, are the cornerstone of our educational programming. Our conferences take a “flipped classroom” model, in which course participants go through learning materials at their own pace in preparation for live discussion of clinical cases.

We prepare pre-recorded lectures on orthopaedic and trauma surgery topics that are translated into multiple languages and custom tailored to those early on in their careers. These are partnered with gold-standard journal articles and other free online resources to provide more in-depth educational mastery. The topics covered in these learning materials are then revisited during a live case-based discussion. Cases managed by surgeons working with limited resources are selected for presentation and discussed by a diverse panel of faculty. Foundational knowledge, technical advice, and creative solutions to manage challenging cases are shared. Active discussion with course participants is encouraged.

All of our courses aim to 1) improve participant’s knowledge or orthopaedic and trauma management principles; 2) foster international discussion regarding orthopaedic and trauma care delivery; and 3) motivate and support the younger generation of orthopaedic providers practicing in resource limited settings. We look forward to learning together!
